Chrome, Matt Black, Brushed Nickel or Brass? Choosing a Tapware Finish

Tapware finish sets the tone of a bathroom, and you'll live with it every day. Here's how the popular finishes compare.

Chrome

Bright, classic and the easiest to match. Chrome shows water spots but wipes clean quickly, and suits almost any tile or vanity.

Matt Black

A strong contrast against white or light tiles and a favourite in modern Perth homes. Dry it after use: water marks and mineral deposits show more on a dark matt surface.

Brushed Nickel

A soft, warm grey that hides fingerprints and water spots well. It's a good middle ground if you want something different from chrome that's still easy to live with.

Brushed Brass and Gun Metal

Warm brass and deep gun metal add a designer feel, especially with timber vanities and natural stone looks. Keep the whole room in the same finish so it looks deliberate.

Match your taps and accessories

Our MELA ranges, including FLOVA, PALCO, RONDO and BRUNO, come in matching finishes across mixers, showers, towel rails, hooks and holders. That makes it easy to keep one look from the basin to the towel rail.

Looking after any finish

  • Clean with warm soapy water and dry with a microfibre cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive cloths, scourers and harsh chemicals.
  • Clean tap aerators about every six months.
