Roberts Designs 6mm Round Closed Cell Backer Rod is a foam rod you push into a joint before sealing it. It sets the depth of the sealant, stops it bonding to the bottom of the joint and saves a lot of silicone in deep gaps.
Use it for
- Backing narrow movement and perimeter joints before silicone or hybrid sealant
- Filling the gap between tile and bath, shower base or door frame
- Any joint deeper than it is wide

Good to know
- Pick a rod about 25 percent wider than the joint so it stays put.
- Sealant depth should be about half the joint width. Set the rod to that depth and seal over it.
- Closed cell foam does not soak up water, so it suits wet areas. Also available in 10mm (RDX2303).

How much tile should I order?
Measure the area in square metres and add 10% for cuts and breakages (15–20% for herringbone or diagonal layouts). Every tile page has a calculator that sets the quantity for you.
Can I pick up my order?
Yes. Choose pickup at checkout. Wait until we tell you your order is ready, then book a pickup time and bring your order number.
Can I return something?
Change-of-mind returns are accepted within 30 days for unused products in original packaging. A 15% restocking fee applies. Faulty or damaged items are covered under the Australian Consumer Law. See our Refund Policy.
